Read the rules

You know when the San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee makes the news you are in for some political maneuverings that only a Super-Delegate could love. With breathless headlines the alternative press have been reporting a coup at the Central Committee with high powered progressives running for seats and potentially taking control from the “Newsom” faction.

First of all, why does Mayor Newsom care? It is not like he will need this group’s endorsement, he can’t run for re-election and they have not been a dependable base of support for his ballot proposals. Let’s read what the SF Bay Guardian has to say:

Control of the DCCC — or even strong, unified campaign for it — could allow progressives to pressure the Democratic Party to support their proposals for solving problems like the dearth of affordable housing, which will be the subject of ballot measures in both June and November.

Well the problem with this theory is that the current committee members retain their seats until January. So even if they win, those running in June, will have a limited impact on the June or November election.

So it seems like this is the oldest political move, grandstanding.
